The Sultan travelled aboard the battleship Barbaros Hayreddin with part of his entourage, escorted by the cruiser Turgut Reis and the steamer Gülcemal and the Sultan made a critical stop over in Selanik.

It is ironic that Sultan Abdul Hamid was interned at this villa with a small retinue and viwes in house arrest after his destitution on 28th april 1909. After the fall of Salonika and on his return to istanbul the rooms allocated to the harem as dining halls At Beylerbeyi Palace will be used by Abdülhamit II as his privy apartments .
