Iskenderun of Hatay, is a modern city at the coast of the bay which is remembered with its name.

History
Foundations of Alexandretta city is laid on 333 B. C., with Persia Emperor 3rd Darius is sustained a defeat by Macedonian King Alexander the Great in Issos Valley. İskenderun, had also lived the Roman, Bizantium and Ottoman periods.
Geography
Iskenderun is located on the Mediterranean coast on the eponymous Gulf of İskenderun at the foot of the Nur Mountains (Amanos Mountains).
Iskenderun is a busy commercial centre, with its 200,000 people surpassing the Hatay provincial seat of Antakya in population. One of Turkey's largest ports on the Mediterranean and an important industrial centre home to İsdemir, one of Turkey's largest steelworks, Iskenderun has an active, modern life with good hotels, restaurants and cafes along the palm-lined sea front.
The surrounding countryside contains large areas of fruit groves, important producers of oranges, tangerines and lemons.
Climate
Summers are too hot in İskenderun, where Mediterranean climate is dominating. Plateaus of province, where winters are rainy, are cooler than coastal area.
